"This brief workshop, presented following my exhibition "Miguel Cervantes or the wish to live", will in reality be a meeting about photography and how to understand it in relation to three fundamental concepts: territory, travel and memory. After all, as Julio Caro Baroja liked to say, travel, since ancient times, has been the best model and metaphor of human life.

"We will talk a lot about photography and memory, i.e.: about the relationship of photography with time. And about imagination and memory (after all, imagination comes from image). All of this will inevitably lead us to consider the relationship of photography with literature.

"We will also look at the presence of objective and subjective elements in documentary photography work, that way of practicing the art of photography which Walker Evans defined as "lyric or poetic documentalism", words which, curiously, are not far removed from those which Miguel de Cervantes wrote in his day: “Feigned stories are good and enjoyable the closer they are to the truth or the appearance of truth.”

"This meeting is intended for anybody who approaches photography with interest and respect, photographers themselves, and people who are simply attracted by what is photographic as a relevant fact of our culture."
