Of Whores. An essay on masculinity (58') is a video-essay piece that records various encounters in which Núria Güell decided to hire the services of several prostitutes to tell her, through their experience and knowledge, what they thought about masculinity. Núria's work, aware that art is often used as a symbolic and emotional support for all kinds of power, attempts not to provide answers or truths, not to conclude theses, but to show the conflicts and contradictions that exist between different realities. Its practice is not the expression of contemplation or the virtuoso display of a technique, but a practice of confrontation, of questioning evidence and moral conventions.
The screening of this video will be accompanied by a commentary by Conxa Borrell, who is a prostitute, sex educator, trade unionist and activist for the rights of Spanish sex workers, current leader and spokesperson of APROSEX and the OTRAS trade union. Conxa will take the opportunity to present the work that is currently being developed by the initiatives she is part of and the state of the debate on the legalisation of sex work in our political scene.
