Podcast open to the public in which we will talk about sensory perceptions in the 16th and 17th centuries with Las Hijas de Felipe and Agustín Ortiz, moderated by Laura Arensburg.

After the experience of the Grup d'Estudis Perceptius during the exhibition The tradition that runs through us, we continue thinking about sensory perceptions in this bonus track podcast combining the alteration of the senses and the reformulation of traditions with Carmen Urbita and Ana Garriga, from Las Hijas de Felipe, and Agustín Ortiz, artist of the piece "Gnosis Iluminada".

José Gómez de la Parra said of the nuns of the convent of Discalced Carmelites founded in Puebla de los Ángeles in 1604, that because they lived "cloistered in the narrow enclosure of the convent, and enclosed in small cells", "their senses were mortified". So much so that the nuns "when they cut roses and orange blossom flowers to decorate the altars, it is not possible for them to taste their fragrances". If these severed sensories may be surprising in the midst of the exuberance with which the baroque explored the pleasure of the senses, for us they appear as a healing relief from which to think about and navigate our own confinement. In the same way that our most favourite nuns in history groped somatic nooks and crannies to elude the subjugation of the senses prescribed by the manuals of conduct, Las Hijas de Felipe, determined not to do away with "the mortified senses", take refuge in the sounds and textures of hashtags like #satisfyingvideos and #slimeasmr to make up for the sensorial deficiencies of our long periods of confinement, constructing, from the academic cell, our own virtual sensorium. In conversation with Laura Arensburg and Agustín Ortiz Herrera and hand in hand with our beloved nuns of Puebla, with cetrine Jesuits obsessed with disciplining every little perceptive corner of the 17th century, and with the enjoyment of duchesses who built spaces overflowing with sensoriality, we will guide you through these "doors through which the soul is opened, in this prison of the body", to try, between us all, to learn how to alleviate the "yearnings of the cloistered sensory".
